Is the fact that the company changed its name in Oct. 2008 negative or positive? I've heard it touted as a buyout candidate—does this seem reasonable? The strategy of making over-the-counter competitors to prescription brands is interesting—good for product price (presumably) and accessibility, but how credible will they be? I'm personally leery of OTC medications, but I'm MUCH more skeptical than the average bear, or even the average human.

Some people seem to believe that they are safer or more stable than individual equities, but how do they differ from an index fund? Is it possible for them to do better than average?

To me, they seem to combine good and bad stocks from one sector in a fund, bringing down the returns of the better stocks. Is the advantage of diversity worth the candle, and under what conditions? (I admit to an inherited bias against mutual funds in favor of individual stocks, and instinctively lean toward funds with specific investment objectives, such as high income, balanced stock/bond funds, growth, etc. for my few fund investments.)

When do we draw the limit on providing cash to AIG?

AIG just got another $125 billion and changed the terms on what was left of the original 485 billion. How much oversight is there by our representatives on what they do with the money? Can we/are we ensuring that they don't go on executive retreats as they did after the first installment? Apparently, there was a freeze on executive compensation and limits on severance pay. Is that enough?

P.S. To set the record straight for anyone who saw my previous answer to the question regarding profitability of the current bailout, which led me to ask this question, McCain, while one of the "Keating Five" was cleared of improper action but not of poor judgement.

How strongly should one consider insider trading in a stock when considering investment?

Corporate executives whose compensation is partially in options have different reasons for buying or selling stocks that simple confidence or lack thereof in their company (taking a profit on older options, exercising them befoer they expire, or diversifying their investment portfolio). In this environment, how much weight should one give to insider trades?
