I am 48 now. Where should I start putting my money now to produce the highest monthly income when I'm 65?

I am disabled and on disability, so I have only a small amount to invest - $300.00-$500.00 or more a month. I live in a high-tax state - NY, so tax-free income would be great (I guess). Thanks.

What mechanism is used by countries to control the value of their currency?

In an article about treasuries recently, i read
"China increased its holdings by 3.2 percent, the most since November, buying Treasuries with its reserves to control the level of the yuan. The currency, which was pegged at about 8 to the dollar until July 2005, has traded between 6.8 and 6.9 since last June. It closed May 29 at 6.8291 to the dollar.

'To some extent they have to buy Treasuries because they want to support their currency peg,' said Carl Lantz, an interest-rate strategist in New York at Credit Suisse Securities USA LLC. The firm is also a primary dealer. "

How exactly does this work?

Why do we have global deflation for large purchases and inflation for food now?

We have deflation for large purchase that requires loans; we have inflation for food?
Why is that? Thanks

For example there is a deflation environment for many assets, products and services, such as cars, forest, property, leather products, software products, electronic products, furniture, clothes, tyres, ceramics, boats, travel and hotel services and other luxury item etc..

However despite collapse of commodity market there is a global inflation for food. As a result of this purchasing power has not increased yet.
