Is Apple a safe bet?

Apple recently released their earnings and blew them out of the water. Are they a safe long term bet? I planned on buying their stock once it hit below 100 and sure enough it has in this terrible market. I bought some before their earnings report. nnBottom line, is it a safe bet?

My money is on Obama for this one - just doesn't seem "business friendly". Traditionally republicans help out big business, but I'm not so sure if that's what we need right now.

Hillary just might do the trick...I'd really love to hear what other folks think.

Thanks!

Who thinks there was some insider trading in Bear Sterns?

I think it's pretty clear - multi-billion dollar hedge funds who are clients of Bear's were short the stock since it began its massive decline since the summer.

Coincidence?

Maybe...but I think something smells fishy here.

Thoughts?

I feel like I'm looking at American Express back in Oct of 2001 again...I'm personally in favor of going long both Bear Sterns and Citigroup at these prices and continuing to buy more on weakness.

Any thoughts?

How low does the Dow go?

I see that the MACD has once again turned down on the chart of the Dow Industrials Average. The DOW is currently at 12,040. Any guesses as to how much lower the DOW might go? There was an intra-day low of 11,6445 set on January 22nd, and 11, 644 set the next day. Is this the most likely downside target?

Wal-mart tops sales forecasts - bullish or bearish indicator?

If we're heading into a recession, then it stands to reason people will opt to shop at lower-cost stores, example: WMT. I'd like to know if other retailers (higher end) have been topping forecasts as well.

Any thoughts?

What's the 1 stock/company you would continue to own (and possibly buy more of) even if the bottom fell out from under it tomorrow? This assumes nothing dramatically changed about the company's core value proposition.

Time to buy Financials?

While I am well aware of the risk involved in 'catching a falling knife', as an investor with long-term horizons, I feel like this could be a good investment in the long-run, accepting that there could still be a further downside in the short term.

However rather than trying to pick individual winners, I'm looking at a broader Financials ETF. Can anyone recommend a few good ones that focus on USA and/or UK banking stocks?

Difference between a "soft recession and a "hard" recession?

One of the questions asked in today's TickerHound challenge is "What is the definition of a recession. On the evening news, recession is definately on everyone's mind. One reporter talked about there being two types of recessions, soft and hard. What is the difference between the two?

Is this a good time to buy the new ETF, KOL?

KOL, the new ETF on the market following the coal sector seems like a good prospect. I've been following the steel and coal sector for a while and feel that it is one of the strongest sectors, relatively speaking. I've been waiting for the coal ETF to be released and now it's here. Aside from the problems in the general market that indicate that now is probably not a good time for bullish positions, do you think buying KOL in it's infancy is a good idea, or should I watch it for a while and see how it performs?
