How do you determine a fair value for a company's stock?

I constantly hear the phrase "do your own research" and I believe that's very sound advise. But how do you do that without going broke paying for somebody else's analysis. In other words, how can I "do my own research"? What elements of data should I look at and analyze to determine the fundamental value (i.e., fair stock price) of an equity?

How can I do research on the Chriss Rowe internal strength system?

I would like to know how I can dig a little deeper into the Chriss system. By that I mean, how would I go about finding out how happy his customers are with his services? Are there any of his clients that would be willing to communicate with me about his program? How many or what percentage of his clients are really making it with his proven system. How many of his clieants if any are unhappy with his system. Why, for example would I want to sign up for his program as opposed to other programs, or go with an RIA? Are there other factors to consider ? I hope I am not being too bold.

Where in the market should a college student with around 5K invest (high risk included)?

I would like to begin investing in the stock market. My main motivation is to gain experience and learn all the subtleties of the market. I recognize that this is a perfect time in my life to take risks as in the future (after school) I will need to support myself and as I get older my investments will need to be more secure. This being said, where would you guys reccomend I invest. I would like a diversified portfolio that will allow me exposure into many different facets of the market. At the same time I would not mind exposing some of my money to larger risks and the possiblity of larger rewards/greater learning experiences (for better or for worse). Which markets and in which industries would you guys reccomend? Thanks so much.
