How do I answer a question?
Answering questions is fairly straight forward.
The first step is to find a question that has not been resolved yet. You can do that by clicking on the “Answer a Question” link in the navigation bar. That will bring you to a list of questions that have not had a “Best Answer” chosen for them yet.
From there you can either browse through the open questions or you can choose a specific type of question to view. For example, if you’re an experienced Mutual Fund investor you could go ahead and click on the “Mutual Funds” category on the right Categories bar. Now you’ll only see open questions that relate to Mutual Funds.
It’s probably a good idea to specialize in a category or two – this way you’ll give better answers and have a higher chance of being listed as a Top TickerHound in that category.
From there you’ll just need to a find a question you feel you can answer and then click on it. Here you can see the question details and all the responses other members have given. If you think you can add something unique and valuable, then click the “answer” button just beneath the Question bubble.
Enter your answer and click submit…that’s it!
If your answer is chosen as the “Best Answer” then you’ll be notified via e-mail and on the “Notification” section of the TickerHound site.
Can I edit or change my response to a question?
Unfortunately we don’t allow members to go back and change their answers – it’s almost like cheating on a test. So please check your answers carefully before submitting them.
We do, however, allow members to post more than one answer.
So if you think your original answer was sub-par, then we’ll allow you to post another one – but at least this way the person who asked the question can see the evolution of your answer and make a final judgment based upon that.
How many points do I get if my answer is chosen as the Best Answer?
If your answer is chosen as the “Best Answer” then you’ll earn 10 points!
I don’t see an answer button on a question, what should I do?
Don’t do anything – and don’t worry.
If a question doesn’t have an answer button it’s because the question has already been answered and a “Best Answer” has been chosen. That forces the question to be closed to new responses.
You can, however, vote on the answers that are already in there and help those members earn more points towards becoming a Top TickerHound.
Where can I go to find questions that haven’t been answered yet?
All you have to do to find these questions is click on the “Answer a Question” item in the top navigation bar.
On the next screen you can either view Recent questions that haven’t been resolved yet – you can tell which ones haven’t been resolved because they don’t have a star on them. Or you can click on the “No Answers” tab and you’ll get a list of questions that absolutely nobody has replied to yet, which will give you first crack at answering it and getting picked as the “Best Answer”.
What's the difference between the “Open”, “Unanswered” and “Resolved” tabs?
We wanted to create a way that made it easy for you to find questions that have recently appeared, that need answers and that have been answered completely. So we created the set of “tabs” that you see when you click on the “Answer a Question” or “Browse Answers” links. Here’s a brief explanation of each tab:
- Open - “Open Questions” are ones that have not yet been “Resolved”. Meaning, the person who asked the question has not chosen a “Best Answer” for it yet. So you might see questions in this list that have a few answers and some that have no answers. As long as they haven’t had a “Best Answer” chosen you still have a shot at answering the question and earning some points!
- Unanswered - “Unanswered Questions” are the ones that have no answers at all. So if you’re looking to be the first one to answer a question (and increase the likelihood of having your answer chosen as the “Best Answer”) then you’ll want to click this tab often.
- Resolved - “Resolved Questions” are questions that have had a “Best Answer” chosen for them. You can no longer answer questions in here but this is the perfect place to come and browse for answers – you can definitely learn a thing or two here.
