What is a Top TickerHound?

For starters let’s make one thing clear – every member of the TickerHound community is my default a “TickerHound”.  If you’re trying to get a leg up on the market, if you’re trying to increase your finance and investing knowledge base, if you’re trying to manage your money more effectively then you’re a  TickerHound!  Period.

But a “Top” TickerHound is a TickerHound who stands out above the rest.  A Top TickerHound is a TickerHound who actively contributes to the TickerHound community and helps other investors increase their knowledge of the markets.

These Top TickerHounds are rewarded by getting their name in lights on:

  1. The TickerHound homepage
  2. The TickerHound newsletter
  3. And on 3rd party partner sites

Because quite frankly, TickerHound isn’t about TickerHound “the company”, it’s about you and the rest of the TickerHound community!

How can I become a Top TickerHound?

Becoming a Top TickerHound isn’t the easiest thing in the world, but it’s certainly not impossible.  Here’s what it takes to become a Top TickerHound:

  1. Actively answer questions – by actively answering you keep a high profile within the community and become more visible and familiar to other members.  This will definitely help increase your likelihood of having your questions and answers voted on.
  2. Provide quality information and add real value when answering questions – this will not only cause the person who asked the question to choose your answer as the “Best Answer”, but it’ll also cause casual viewers to vote on your answers as well.
  3. Fill out your entire profile – We’ve found that users who get the most votes and recognition are those who really become integrated members of the TickerHound community.  By filling out your entire profile (especially your web site, bio and profile picture) you give yourself a unique identity in the community and stand out amongst the other people on the site.

Why are some members Top TickerHounds for certain categories and not others?

We did this quite intentionally when we created the TickerHound system.

The fact of the matter is an investor can’t be an expert in every area of the investing and financial information markets.  In fact, I’d argue that I’d prefer to get advice from a person who was a specialist in a particular area, rather than take advice from a “Jack of all, master of none” type of person.  For instance, I wouldn’t go to my accountant if I needed advice on an options trade I was doing.  At the same token I wouldn’t ask my Mutual Fund manager how to do my taxes.

So when you browse the TickerHound site you’ll find that some members are Top TickerHounds in the “Personal Finance” category, while others specialize in “Debt/Bonds”.

Why does the list of Top TickerHounds on the homepage change?

In an effort to give new TickerHounds as much exposure as possible we change the list on the homepage based on who the top contributors are for the week.  Going forward this list will change on a daily basis and sometimes even twice daily.  So don’t be surprised to see the faces change and new Top TickerHounds to rise up through the ranks.

Why did I lose my Top TickerHound status?

You could see yourself fall from being a Top TickerHound for a number of reasons:

  1. You stopped contributing to the community and other TickerHounds simply rose up and took your spot.  You’ll still be considered a Top TickerHound but you might be so far down the list that nobody will notice.
  2. This reason is less common, but still possible.  If we find that you have been abusing the system or the community we might strip your Top TickerHound status.  If bad behavior continues we have the right to terminate your account entirely.

Why would someone lose points?

A member would only lose points for abusive behavior.  Please see our Community Regulations for more information on what constitutes abusive behavior.
