I have accounts with ING, Countrywide, and Fidelity brokerage. The Countrywide Savingsling account pays the highest dividend which was 5.4 % prior to the recent Fed rate reduction. The $100k account offers free bilpay, credit card, and checks to mention a few. It's easy to transfer monies to and out of this account.
ING used to pay 5 % divident however has recently lowered it's rate to the 4.6 % (I believe).
ING is a good place to put your $'s and forget about them.
Fidelity Brokerage has money market accounts which used to pay 4.7 - 4.9 %. I use this account as a cash holding account for buying and selling stocks. This way, my $'s are always working making monies whether I am in stocks or in cash, waiting to make purchases.

I've been using paypal for any extra cash I have on hand. Their money market paid above 5+% all last year, but it's at 4.6% right now.

As rates have dropped, I've also been looking for an interest premium. GE Cap offers Corporate Notes with $250 minimum to start and check writing privileges for amounts $250 and over. Current rate for amounts under $15K is 4.5% somewhat better than that old stalwart The Reserve.
