A 1099 is also used to report a payment to a "non-employee" by a company.
Many circumstances qualify to be reported on a 1099.
The format of the number is 1099 xxx where xxx is the variable which describes most accurately the payor intent.
i.e. - 1099 DIV ; 1099 INT; 1099 G (from a government entity --- tax refund for instance)
