Is there any interest in investment clubs?

I am part of a small homeowners association (81homes). I was wondering if anyone could give some feedback about starting an investment club within this association? Is there any reading material out there that would be beneficial to study before taking this path? Any redlights that I should be immediately aware of? What would starting up a club like this entail? I was thinking that it might be a fun activity for some of the members of the association to be involved in. I am very green, but I figure if we are all at the same level it might be a good learning experience and have fun making some money (hope this is not too naiive thinking). This is only in the storming stage.

For some good information on investment clubs and how to start one, I would refer you to the link below. (you may have to cut and paste the link):

I am wondering why you want to restrict membership to the 81 homes in your association? You may not find that many people in such a small number, who are interested. If you don't, then you might want to consider opening the club up to people in your town as well.

By the way, in 1983, 16 Senior Citizen women from a small town in Illinois formed an investment club, called the Beardstown Ladies. People snickered at them at first. But this club became so successful that they later wrote a book, "The Beardstown Ladies' Common-Sense Investment Guide: How We Beat the Stock Market-And How You Can Too" (by Leslie Whitaker and the Beardstown Ladies Investment Club).
You can find this book in the library or at Amazon.com

Good luck!
