What is the difference between a "beneficial owner" and a "registered owner" of a security?

What is the difference between the two and how can you tell which category you fall under?

An example of beneficial owners are brokerage firms who hold stocks for their clients - this is what's called a stock held in "street name", in other words, the name of the brokerage/

The registered owner is the client who actually bought the stock and is counted as a registered shareholder of the company.

I'm a registered owner ;)
