I would recommend two books to you:

Trading for a Living: Dr. Andrew Elder

A Beginner's Guide to Day Trading On Line: Toni Turner

These should help you to get started and to learn some strategies. But even after you read them, try to read more, as you can never learn too much. And paper trade first before you commit real money to day trading. Day trading is not easy. Good luck!

Only practice makes perfect. Try virtual trading first for a few months before you commit your real money. A lot of online brokers provide this service free once you open an account.

Why a few months? Because you need to experience the different market environment. Different market conditions require different strategy and you don't want to pay a big tuition fee to learn the different the skills.

EthanR and Hillcat88 have given some good points about day trading. I like to add more.

Day trading involves taking advantage of price movements in stocks within one trading day. According to one study 70% of day traders are losing their money.

Day traders should have access to real time market quotes and activity to get price advantage. In addition they need high speed computer connection and a reliable online broker.

Don’t trade with money that you can not afford to lose. This system is not suitable for everybody. You must think and decide whether this method is suitable for you.
Really this is highly speculative practice.

I think that currencies are much better to day trade than stocks.

Good luck !
