Disregard the category, I fat fingered the category and meant to select Funds/ETF's.

Past performance is no guarantee of future returns...so goes the disclaimer, required by the SEC &NASDAQ, on all mutual funds' ads. And in fact, the best future performance is by those funds with the prior year's top return...and worst return. The first is due to momentum, and the second by reversion to the mean.

As for which company's funds seem to do best: Vanguard for long-term, and low fees, but requires large deposits and restricts trading; TRowePrice for relatively low fees and a great spread of 5 Star (Morningstar risk adjusted ratings) funds,; not such high minimum $ to begin; some restrictions on trading

. There are plenty of mutual funds to choose from, and some are specialty funds, which neither Vanguard, nor TRowePrice, nor Fidelity can match. It really depends on your time horizon, whether this will become a portfoilo basis, whether you will add small amounts at regular intervals (or even smarter, add to under-performers; milk over-performers and rebalance only when your portfolio's allocation has drifted away from your desires).
