FXI includes 25 very large Chinese companies, (such as China Mobile, China Petroleum etc.) trading on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and their performance is related to the Hong Kong market more that the Chinese Shanghai Exchange. I believe they would perform very well this year. The Hong Kong market should have already bottomed and would be moving higher in the next few months.

The Top ETFs for 2008 will be the one's which focus on the growth sectors of 2008.
Now what are those sectors ?

1. Commodities and Gold
2. ETFs listed in Hongkong which are focussed on China - The reason being that they are off their high's right now and with Chinese economy booming, this is one bet which will pay rich dividends
3. Another is the Japanese ETF's where you now find that blue chip companies like Sony are up for grabs.

Happy investing folks.

Definitely, China is going to be one of the best performers in the next decade or two. But currently, China market is experiencing a serious pull back due to the bubble it created in 2007. I still consider China market as a healthy market that the strong economic growth built a sound foundation for the future growth.

2008 maybe is a difficult year for China, due to the strong inflation, currency appreciation, and the political instability. But going forward, China definitely one of the ETF I will select for my portfolio, they are: FXI and PGJ. If you are not comfortable with the Chinese ones, give a try for the EWH which is the Hongkong ETF, which is a more matured market with many Chinese stocks listed.

Hope that help.

Enjoy.

I believe that several of the ultrashort ETF's will continue to do well, especially the SRS, which shorts real estate stocks. Real Estate should continue to underperform for several months to come, and SRS has already performed well Year to date.

GLD and SLV will perorm the best this year I beleive. Although I saty away from them a I don't see them as safe and do not trust them to hold my metal. You cannot EVER take delivery if you need to and the prospectus is suspect in that they may lend out the metals to actually short the metals= lower prices. Anyhow whatever floats your boat, good luck.

I think it is very difficult to identify best ETFs for 2008 under present market situation and due to nature of speculation in some sectors. In addition every other day we see fluctuations in almost all type of markets. Therefore I think it is better to avoid ETFs in some hot sectors now.

Currently utility ETFs, Commodity ETFS and Health ETFs are over valued. Commodity will struggle in 2008 except few. I think food related ETFS will do well in 2008. However even in these sectors some ETFs are over priced now. It is better to do thorough research before investing in any type of ETFS including following.

There will be good demand for some food category including farm products in 2008. There will be also good demand for coal as an alternative to oil to generate power. Frontier market ETFs will do well in 2008 as a result of moving funds to frontier markets and less effect on those markets as a result of slower world growth including slower growth in USA.

ETFs to Watch in 2008. Some ETFs are listed in London Stock Exchange.
•
PowerShares DB Agriculture (DBA)
•
•Market Vectors Global Agribusiness (MOO)
•
PowerShares DB Commodity Index Tracking Fund (DBC)
•
Foreign Currency ETFs CurrencyShares Swiss Franc Trust (FXF)
•
•The db x-trackers Select Frontier ETF and db x-trackers Vietnam ETF track the FTSE Vietnam Index and the S&P Select Frontier Index respectively, offering investors exposure to new emerging markets.
•
•COL ETF- I Think expensive ratio is less than 1.
•
•The top holdings include China Coal Energy (Hong Kong), Consol Energy (CNX), Bumi Resources (Indonesia), Peabody Energy (BTU), and China Shenhua Energy Corp (China).
