Does anyone know of a source for insider trading information across equities of a type or sector as a whole?

Current insider trading information is useful in evaluating a trade(buy or sell), but this evaluation itself requires some evaluation as has been pointed out in another question in this forum. Personally, I like to look at insider trading in other similar equities and in the sector as a whole. The problem only is that it is somewhat laborious to do so if one looks at many other equities. So what I am really looking for is a reliable and current database(hopefully searchable) to group and trend data--current data. Guess I am just looking for something that would save a little time and effort.

I've used Form4Oracle.com before and I really like it. It's not a free service, however.

I have yet to see a specific tracker for industry wide buying and selling, but any good service should provide the ability to export results to excel. From there you can sort by sector and get a clear picture of what's going on.

Good luck!

Investools isn't free either, but it groups stocks into about 30 industries, ranks them based on institutional investment/selling, as well as gives you information such as: Institutional % ownership, shares sold in last 3 months, shares bought in last 3 months, and net shares bought. They also have a search tool in which you can look for various pieces of information, such as numbers of institutional holders of the stock, and percentage of the shares being held by institutions. Overall, i find its a fairly useful service, as it includes plenty of other information as well. Once again though, its not free.

Martha Stewart ... only it's illegal! ;)

If you are simply looking to see who is buying/selling a company's stocks (a great idea, before you buy or sell yourself, by the way), then Yahoo Finance can help ... here's an example for The Cheescake Factory: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/it?s=CAKE

PS I just use the Cheesecake Factory example, because it is the one that Phil Town uses in his excellent book: Rule # 1 Investing.
