There was another question involving the FXP, I think that'd be a solid holding in the short run considering China's current economic/market climate. But I'd also be careful here -- the long term economics of China are strong and you don't want to get caught holding this one too long.
GLD would also be a good hold this year as we continue to see the US economic environment deteriorate.

DBA, MOO (first is a grantor trust of agricultural commodity futures, should be held only in a taxable account; the second is an agricultural commodity producer collection of companies), SRS (inverse real estate index); ILF (Latin America, very pricey...or EWZ, Brazil), GUR (eastern Europe & Russia).
There's a slew of new commodity index-based ETN's (Exchange traded Notes, debt instuments from large banks) that have recently been released. See http://etf.SeekingAlpha.com, 041408 archive.

Gold should be settling down around 835-850. GDX has reached oversold level. All the big gold miners have been reporting exceptionally good first quarter results and the trend for the rest of the year would not be too different.
Gold miners stock has a leverage over gold price and this year would be a good proof of that. For a medium term investment GDX would be the best choice.
I would want to say something about FXP. Although I agree that in the short term (3-6 weeks) FXP may go higher as I believe both the US market and the HK market would consolidate. However in a longer run FXI has been bottomed and would go much higher this year thus you need to be very careful if you want to buy FXP now. FXP is not a longer term hold at all.

I think frontier market funds especially Asian frontier markets and stocks will outperformed other developed and emerging markets including BRIC IN 2008 and 2009. There are long terms potential also in some fast developing frontier markets.
Frontier markets can remain healthy, even when the United States gets a cold. Unlike other markets including emerging markets, these markets not hit by the credit crunch.
Some frontier market indexes are:
Advance Frontier M. UK: AFMF (LSE)
The db x-trackers ETFs are listed on multiple stock exchanges across Europe. One fund will track the FTSE Vietnam Index and the other will follow the S&P Select Frontiers Index.
Recently Invesco PowerShares submitted a prospectus to the Securities & Exchange Commission for a frontier markets exchange-traded fund.
MSCI Frontier Markets Index
However we must avoid frontier ETFs more exposure to commodity now. Sharp correction in commodity market will affect these funds very badly.
Frontier market with potential:
Vietnam
Peru
Pakistan
Sri-Lanka
Croatia
Qatar
Nigeria
Kenya
Som... e East European countries
Some African Countries
Jordan
Malaysia
Indonesia
Some breakaway Soviet Russian countries
Some South American Countries
