Oil futures represent 1,000 barrels, so a 10 cent change is 10 cents/barrel x 1,000 barrels = $100. An oil barrel is 42 gallons. A futures contract in unleaded gasolene is 42,000 gallons, so a 10 cent change is 10 cents x 42,000 gallons = $4,200.
