They just signed deals with several cell carriers in Asia.

Probably not. Yahoo!'s problem isn't "search", it's "search advertising". And that's one thing you certainly can't do well on a tiny mobile screen. So they could capture 100% of the mobile search market and still not make a dime (how likely are you to click an ad while on a mobile phone looking for a nearby gas station? Answer: not likely).
Also, how many ads could you possibly show on a tiny screen (even the iPhone)? It's just not gonna happen haha.
