$3 million - this way I can collect interest/passive income and maintain my current lifestyle without worry. This was a great question because to me, it always helps to work backwards.

Since I am . . . errrrr, uhhhhh, well . . . fifty and my darling daughter is just now two (no, not two decades!) . . . I don't plan to retire for quite some time. That being said, I do plan to retire from my current career and lifestyle and reinvent myself in another part of the country doing a completely different career. And I will be working for myself. Meanwhile, it's about two years away because of the real estate market, and I need time to get my ducks in a row. That being said, I do plan to retire someday with, realistically and not including my house, $1.5 - $2 million.
