The investable Chinese market has been in BEAR mode since January of this year...and most ETFs & CEFs that track it are showing a 30-50% loss. So it' s not hot at all. There are some sectors: marine shipping, cement and steel production, that have shown some gains, but many companies show losses since the November 2007 high.
Niche offerings in travel and leisure have some adherents; biopharmaceuticals may also be a worthwhile area, but you need either to know the latest fad phase or the technology behind the biopharma.

You can invest in U.S. companies with operations in China or who own shares of companies in China.I own 2 stocks with exposure to China. One,Valmont Industries, has 2 pole plants in China and is building a third now.The other,Agrium, owns 20% of a large Chinese fertilizer company.Neither of these stocks has been effected by the China stock market crash and they still should benefit, long term, from the strong growth in China.
