If the stimulus checks helped retail sales in May, won't they just get bad again this month?
I don't get why the market is set to run higher this morning if the only good news was the retail numbers (which were most likely caused by the government's stimulus checks).

Whenever I hear about the stimulus checks, I cannot help smiling. And I'm pretty sure that the Bush administration is not just simling, but laughing at the diner table.
Smart petty thieves in the movies make me smile too. Picture this: a petty thief snatches money from his bird's wallet while she's in the shower. Later on, he buys her the prettiest flowers and gets, well, you know what, in return. The moral of the story is that she paid for her own gift and he's the one getting her favors for free.
When you look at the stimulus checks, it's rather similar. Tax payers will end up paying for it. And where did the money go? Petro dollars. Americans must drive to work and shopping malls after all. And who's profiting from petro dollars? I'll leave it to you. Stimulus checks as the price of oil goes up is a good way to rob the FED.
Food is up, oil is up, credit cards loaded... how can retail sales go well? I've got an idea, why not open a borrowing window at the FED for retail stores? Sales are bad, call up Bernanke. Just like depository institutions have borrowed 140 billion from the Federal Reserve within not even 6 months. That is 1% of GDP. What are you gonna do about it? Do what like Jim Rogers did? Sale your house, sell your USD, and get the hell out of here where the capital is movinng to.

I was at the mall last night and you could have heard the proverbial pin drop. Every store except Abercrombie and Fitch was deserted. The lady at the Chinese food stand said it's been dead for months (that's right, I ask). Retail sales may have been up last month (so much for all the promises that people were going to pay off their debt and invest their stimulus checks), but look out below when the June numbers come out.
