You can play REITs by getting long ticket symbol IYR. It is an ETF of US REITs.

Go to www.yahoo.com
then click on finance,
then under the investing tab, click on industries
Scroll all the way down until you see the list of REIT categories
It would make sense to diversify among the different categories, such as one stock from office, one from residential, one from health care facilities. By clicking on each category, you will find the top performers in each category. You can also run comparison charts via yahoo or stockcharts.com
