Would it be a safe bet to go short Sprint-Nextel?

Thinking about it for a short term (1 - 3 months) trade - any thoughts?

I can’t say if it’s a safe bet to short the stock, but from a customer’s perspective I would consider it. I was originally a Nextel customer (now Nextel/Sprint) and have been for five years. I have also used the service for six years, through my employer, on my job.

One of the main reasons I use their service is for its push-to-talk radio feature. Apparently Sprint has had trouble integrating the Nextel network with its own. I am experiencing frequent glitches with the P-T-T feature which I suspect has something to do with the differences between the two networks. Verizon is now a viable alternative because it now offers the P-T-T feature.

Unlike some of its competitors, Nextel/Sprint does not have a competitively priced plan that fits my usage. Also, in years past I was offered a monetary incentive to renew my contract for one year. This year the company insisted that I renew for two years which I refused to do.

For these reasons, I am giving serious consideration to changing carriers. Other subscribers may be thinking the same thing.
