Suggestion for new Tickerhounds-Wait a bit before giving Best Answer
I've recently come across several questions that were given Best Answer with only 1 or 2 answers and in less that 1 day. Doing so closes out the question from other answers. I would have liked to have added to the answers given. I would suggest waiting for at 4 or 5 answers or several days ( whichever comes first) before giving Best Answer. This gives other Tickerhounds to participate. You could be missing out on some very important info given by other Tickerhounds. Thanks
Additional Information:
Plus, the answers given is not just for the questioner, it's for the entire Tickerhound community. If it was just for the questioner then why is it posted on a website for all to see? It could be answered by private email. But,this is not a private forum.
I kinda like the time limit restriction before a Best Answer can be clicked as suggested by jillybeansisme. At the very least an automatic email sent to each questioner immediately after the question is posted with a suggested minimum time frame or number of answers given before giving Best Answer so the rest of the community can learn from a number of other Tickerhounds. And even a reminder (in that same email) that giving Best Answer closes the question to other Tickerhounds.

Hey Alan,
I totally agree, that's why we send out the "Choose a Best Answer" reminder 7 days after the question is asked. And while I definitely recommend people wait for at least a week before choosing a best answer, I certainly won't force anyone to.
TickerHound's one of the only investing sites that 100% community powered. So if someone feels like closing out a question, then they should be able to do so. Because in the end, if they extracted the information they want, then they have found their "personal" Best Answer.
I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks about this.
I'm open to listening to different ideas on how to properly address this.
Best,
Wayne

I really feel there should be a 48 hour period where a "best answer" cannot be declared. It gives the rest of the community a chance to view and respond. The more we can interact this way, the more valuable the Tickerhound site becomes to all of us.

Often one answer prompts another- Its how interaction in a design review works- To wit:
A design (issue) is presented and reviewers have a question and answer session.
This takes time. Result is design modifications are adjusted to optimaize the design.
In our case all the questions or answers have to come out to compleat the process.

I didn't realize thats how it works when I started here.
Even though the advice was helpful for me, I'll open up my questions again because it definitely will help to get other opinions.
