General Market Question
What does the term "economic proxy" mean?

It's not a real "term" so to speak, it's more of a clever way of saying "look at consumption of one type of item to get a general overview of how the economy is doing". So imagine if we used the volume of boats sold as a proxy measurment for the rest of the economy...then when the sale of boats slowed, we'd assume that the economy was slowing too.
