Where are the suicides?
In the last Great Depression, many people who failed committed suicide.
Now we are heading into the Mother of all Depressions, and instead of suicides we see claims by the CEOs of failed institutions that they will not accept the Government's rescue plan unless their golden parachutes are guaranteed?

LoL...well this is pretty far from the depression on a macro level. We're not looking at 25% unemployment rates this time around. The market hasn't dropped by 25% in a day.
I agree that these banks are being retards, but we're far from a "suicide level" depression.

After I double-answered (guiltily) the question provoking your other post regarding suicides, I found your profile, and was a tad disappointed to find that you're an Australian. I have nothing against Australia, rather the opposite, and you verify my parents' observation on their visit some 10 years ago that Australia seemed more relaxed a society than ours, and that Ozzies (if that is indeed the correct term) are in general friendlier and more welcoming than today's Americans (actually, U.S. citizens, can't comment on the other Americans that we in the U.S. often don't consider when appropriating that shorthand term). They had the same experience in Bermuda, where they also found children more responsible that Americans of the same age (they didn't interact with Ozzie children). They commented that Australia today seems more like America in the 1950s that they enjoyed as young parents, and that if they had to do it over, they might consider relocating there. A tip of the hat to all of you, and a wish that U.S.A. citizens will learn from you. Keep writing!
