Is it a bad sign if a company misses the deadline to file its quarterly financial statements?
If so, HOW bad?

Yes, but not too bad. Apple missed its deadline once a few years ago I believe, everything was fine. They usually just get an extension and file it late. Now, if a company misses 2 deadlines then there's a chance that there's a serious problem with the books and they're working to not only fix the problem but potentially restate earnings from previous periods...now THAT is bad.
