Our initial data on third-quarter earnings shows that results and outlooks should come in below plan.

Capital spending is declining, borrowing costs are rising at an accelerating rate and unemployment is rising. Essentially, the economy will be in a choke hold until after the November election.

Generally horrible results are forthcoming.

Those that meet or beat will only do so because the targerts were significantly lowered.

Great time to be shorting/putting brokers and banks ! And restaurants. And retailers. Etc.

I expect things won't be cherry and the Holiday Season for retailers won't be merry. I suspect that John Q. Public is finally realizing that the belt needs tightening many notches and the bills need paying before the new Big Screen gets bought for the football season. No matter which party wins the election, the taxes will rise and the rhetoric will become a moot point. Neither party will be able to do all that it wants to because there's a Congress, etc. that will stop them in their tracks.

And, like a pendulum swings side to side and eventually settles in the middle, so will our economic woes as we ever so slowly dig our way out . . .

But I do not expect good news.
