Hong Kong economic outlook for 2009 is increasingly grim. The worst is yet to be seen. These countries are not immune to this global turmoil.

Singapore is vulnerable to any downturn in its major export markets such as the United States, Europe, China, India and Japan. Balance of payment is in deficit now. It will remain weak in 2009

Hence it is not wise to take positions in broader market. It is also not wise to invest in ETFs either. Sector based investment is the best investment strategy for even in these markets. Few sectors will outperform market in the next 18 months and next decade.
