The solar companies are suffering from an eclipse right now. While the political climate is looking up for them, the real driver is the consumer and business, both of which are hurting. The driver for solar stocks is high energy prices, which with relatively cheap oil, natural gas in the floor, and homeowners without credit access, the only hope for them is the government. And they are on the way. But it will be only for some companies, not a general revival of the segment.The winners of the big government contracts will be way ahead of the rest of the pack. But without government subsidies, solar will not penetrate many areas of the country, just way too costly. There may be some relief for the solar companies if they can get the price of silicon under control, and keep it low.
