The market was actually down by a fairly large amount today - I'm not quite sure what you're referring to? Are you talking about a US market or an overseas exchange?

Even with bad news there are demands for some stocks.
Really there is some good news for some sectors and stocks. Some stocks already appreciated from their November bottom and it will appreciate gradually until next sector oriented bull market and broad based bull market.
When money flows into any market it can go up. Now some emerging market including Indian market is going up. I think this bullish trend will continue until August with volatility.
Today Most Asian markets such Indian, Indonesian, Chinese, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysian and other small Asian markets are up except South Korean, Taiwan and Japan

News is not the only factor that can cause price movement. In fact short term, most of the time the market trades according to it's technical indicators. A simple trend line will prove that point. But, sometimes it moves because of news (fundamentals). But, not always. Just recently, you have bad news and the markets move up. Then you have good news and it moves down. Why? It's trading according to the technicals. The markets can be over sold and all it needs is a bit of good news to start trending back up. Or just the opposite, over bought- bad news = down trend. It just needed a trigger, and the news was the trigger. Fundamentals are used for a long term outlook, technicals are used for short term outlook. And when you are looking at the daily stock market movement you should be looking at the technicals as the most likely reason.
