Why do house owners so keen to sell their houses globally now?

For a couple reasons I think:
1. This recession we're in isn't simply isolated to the US, it's global. And therefore I think folks all over the world need access to cash right now.
2. Again, globally, people aren't able to make their mortgage payments as the job markets continue to deteriorate and therefore need to lower their monthly expenses (biggest monthly expense is usually housing)
Anybody else have thoughts on this issue?
