Tradstation i heard is pretty good, i personally use Scottrade, because i have a local brach and only 7 dollars a trade, but the best online broker is really a hard question only because it all depends on what you personally want and like, all brokers are different, with many different ranges of prices per trade, and have a inactivity fee, if you dont trade enough to there standards, so check all over before you choose 1, you might like some platforms better than others.

In Canada, an independent entity called "Surviscor" does a ranking of online brokers every quarter or so. They've ranked Credential Direct Online as #1 for the 6th time - and I believe for the 4th time in a row. If you go to Surviscor's website, you can see their rankings and the methodology they use to determine who is "best".

The online trading broker that I think is the best is Think or Swim. Reasonable and negotiable commissions (don't be bashful in asking for better than their standard rates before opening an account. TorS has free real time quotes on stocks, options, forex, and futures and all can be traded in the same margin account (permission required for futures and forex). Great trading and analysis tools especially for options. Stock selection tools, free live web advice feeds, etc.
Tradestation has a great trading platform that can be almost free (if you trade a lot; but there are always data fees) or expensive if you don't open an account with them.

OptionsXpress is too expensive for me ( somewhere around $24 or $25 per round turn) but they do have great charts. If you want cheap ($4.95) per trade with no inactivity fees look into TradeKing.
