First you will get viewed the company website very well. After that you will study the financial ratios and financial reports. I think you will get an idea. Now compare your invest able amount with the market price. If you find comfort then go ahead.

If you decide to invest in one company, fine -- just don't invest everything you have. It is NEVER wise to put all your eggs (money) into one basket (investment). Too many things can go wrong. If the company has stock, it might have a DRIP program, which is a direct investment through the company. Otherwise, you open an account with a brokerage firm (and there are numerous firms), fund the account (put money into it), and then place a trade for the stock. You can find symbols for any company through the program your brokerage firm offers or through any place you get a quote. Make sure you get the ticker symbol correct! Which means you have to have the name correct. For example, when I looked up "EA Games" I was not able to find a ticker symbol.

If this is a privately held company, you won't be able to invest in it.

Make sure you have your rainy day (emergency) account funded first and do not use this money to make an investment in stock of any sort.
